What is Online Sports Arbitrage Betting?

Arbitrage betting, or “arbing” is the act of pitting two bookies (such as FanDuel & DraftKings) against each other, where in the end, you come out on top.

Here’s a sample scenario:

Let’s say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now let’s say FanDuel thinks the Buccaneers are the underdogs, and is giving +110 odds to the Buccaneers (meaning if you bet $100, you will get your wager back + $110)

Let’s also say Draftkings thinks the Chiefs are the underdog, and they give the same +110 odds, but to the Chiefs (meaning if you bet $100, you will get your wager back + $110)

So you paid $200 in bets ($100 each to FanDuel & DraftKings), and now 2 things could happen:

  1. Buccaneers win – You paid $200 in bets, and won $210 from FanDuel. $10 profit!
  2. Chiefs win – You paid $200 in bets, and won $210 from DraftKings. $10 profit!

Lets view this in an arbing calculator (add your email to the sidebar to get your own copy)

Either way, you win! $10 may not seem like much, but what if you can do 10 of those bets in an hour? That’s $100 an hour!

Let’s also look at this bet if we were to bet $500 total on the game

That becomes $25 guaranteed profit! Plus, this arb only offers a 5% earning, which is on the low side

How Do I Find Arbitrage Bets?

This is where it can get tricky – to find a great arb bet, you will need to closely monitor several bookkeepers and find the games that have mis-matched odds (like in our example above, DraftKings and FanDuel thought different teams were the underdog, opening up an opportunity to arb!)

There are even softwares available like betburger & betslayer that can find the best arbs for you – these can cost up to $60 per month, so I would recommend starting out on your own, and only upgrading to software if you’re serious about continuing!

Is Arbitrage Betting Legal?

Arbitrage betting is 100% legal – all you’re doing is placing regular bets at different bookies.

HOWEVER, just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean the bookkeepers like it. Bookkeepers and casinos in general don’t like it when players win too much, and they may even communicate with other bookies to see if you’re trying to rig the system. Be sure to bookmark matchedbettingus.com to read an upcoming article about to avoid getting “mugged”, or blacklisted from bookies.

How Do I Know How Much to Bet?

Just like the softwares, there are plenty of calculators out there that can tell you exactly how much to bet on a given matchup in order to make guaranteed winnings.

Rather than pay for a software calculator, I made a simple calculator in excel – submit the form on the right sidebar and I will send it to you free!

Good luck!
